Hello Kasere Family,
Welcome aboard the Kasere Ship! Our dedicated crew has been working hard, and I'm your captain today, Miriam Ehi-Sulaiman. Let's embark on an exciting journey to the Sought After Children Orphanage, where we spent an unforgettable day on July 15, 2024.
Are you ready?? This is where you shout, "Aye Aye, Captain!"
First, a bit about the Sought After Children Orphanage: it's nestled in Langbasa, Lagos, and was founded by the wonderful Mrs. Carol Oyaide on September 7, 2007. Our squad for the day included our founder Mfon Okuntinyang, Project Coordinator Grace Fatsetire, and some enthusiastic volunteers, including our special guest, Mrs. Bimbo Okutinyang.
Let's dive into the day's adventures! We kicked off with Mrs. Bimbo leading us in a heartfelt prayer. Then, we met the Orphanage President, Mrs. Carol, and the amazing kids. They were a bright, enthusiastic bunch, excited about our planned activities.
Breaking the Ice
We started with fun games and icebreakers to get everyone comfortable. We discovered so much about the kids – their dreams and aspirations. They were all ambitious, we had Boluwatife who wanted to be a doctor; Jonathan, who wanted to be a scientist; in our midst were future doctors, astronauts, and dancers; Daniel, brimming with confidence, announced he wanted to be the president. The highlight? Little Joshua, who dreams of becoming Spider-Man! We assured him he could be anything he wanted to be. The future sure looked bright from where we were sitting!
Tie and Dye Magic
Next up, our art instructor, Ms. Dudu, Creative Director of Dudufash Crafts, introduced the kids to the colorful world of tie and dye, or “Adire” as we call it Nigeria. The kids picked their colors, and the fun began! With a little help from our team, even the littlest hands created beautiful, vibrant shirts. The spacious compound was perfect for mixing dyes and soaking the shirts. The result? A burst of colors on every T-shirt!
Heartfelt Messages
The day improved when we wrote personalised messages for each child, filled with encouragement and love. The kids received them joyfully, reinforcing the proverb,
"Good words are like honey, sweet to the soul" (Proverbs 16:23).
We hope our words inspire them on their journeys.
Item 7 and Souvenirs
No event is complete without refreshments, or "Item 7" as we call it in Nigeria. We shared snacks, laughs, and stories, then handed out Kasere souvenirs to the kids. We also donated groceries and foodstuffs to the orphanage.
Wrapping Up
The day ended on a high note with the kids expressing their gratitude and praying for us. It was a heartwarming end to an exceptional day.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. Until next time, keep the spirit of Kasere alive!
With love,
Miriam Ehi-Sulaiman
See you soon.
